Excuse me, it's episode six, not ipisode sex--where's your mind today?
Speaking of. A very exciting thing happened to me this morning. Well, I'll let you judge. (Hard to turn that off, isn't it?)
I had a thought, which immediately made my belly tense up and feel dark and clammy. Tight.
I've been journaling or fast-writing each morning, and one of the by-products is that I notice my thoughts much more clearly as they are happening. Not 100%, but maybe half of the time.
I had this thought about something that will be happening on Thursday. This thing will unavoidably happen on Thursday. It's factual, cannot be changed. The thought I had: This will derail me. At once, this fact was now looming, scary, threatening. I happened to be sitting at my desk. My right hand reached out and picked up the closest pen, which happened to be pink, and I wrote out the CBT formula as it has been adapted by Corinne Crabtree. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, not just for trauma anymore.
Circumstance: THURSDAY !!!!!
Thought: (You don't want to know.)
Feeling: tension, fear, dread.
Action: emotionally overeat, retreat into bubble, suffer
Result: this is gonna suck.
I didn't want that. So I thought of an alternative thought that could be true but would feel better. The idea being that I can create my own reality. Thought: Oh, good, we can talk and move this project forward. Feeling: relief that waiting is ending, productive. Action: prepare what I would like to discuss. Result: we'll have a better discussion because I'll know in advance what I want and how to talk about it respectfully and with CALM.
So BEAUTIFUL. Can you feel the peace there?

The power is your own. Sure, sometimes a difficult thing happens and we react with ALL the drama. Write those horrible thoughts and reactions down. Look at them with your powerful brain. Be embarrassed at your basicness. Then make a decision to think and act differently.
